This is the Land the Sunrise Washes

Here is a piece I’m working on at the moment. I’m obsessed with these string textures. I’ve added a velvety clarinet and a very faint french horn doubling the melody. Still working on the second and third portions of this dreamy piece. The title is from an Emily Dickinson poem, but I modified it slightly. The original is This is the Land the Sunset Washes. Enjoy.

This is the land the sunset washes,

These are the banks of the Yellow Sea;

Where it rose, or whither it rushes,

These are the western mystery!

Night after night her purple traffic

Strews the landing with opal bales;

Merchantmen poise upon horizons,

Dip, and vanish with fairy sails.
