All The World Roars Red and Black

I wrote the track above while I was editing synth patches in Ableton Live. As an exercise, I’m going to orchestrate it with just 4 horns, 2 trumpets, percussion and strings. Hopefully I can have the time to arrange it within the next couple of days.

The title is from the poem Champs d’Honneur by Ernest Hemingway.

Champs d’Honneur

Soldiers never do die well;

Crosses mark the places—

Wooden crosses where they fell,

Stuck above their faces.

Soldiers pitch and cough and twitch—

All the world roars red and black;

Soldiers smother in a ditch,

Choking through the whole attack.
